How to Use This Paycheck Calculator

Enter your annual salary or hourly wage, select your pay frequency and tax filing status, then choose your state. The calculator applies the 2026 federal income tax brackets, FICA taxes (Social Security and Medicare), your state's 2026 income tax brackets, standard deduction and personal exemption, and — for states that have them — mandatory state disability insurance (SDI) or paid family and medical leave (PFML) deductions as separate line items.

FICA Taxes (2026)

Social Security is withheld at 6.2% on wages up to $184,500 (2026 wage base, up from $176,100 in 2025). Medicare is withheld at 1.45% on all wages, plus an additional 0.9% on wages over $200,000.

Standard Deduction (2026)

The standard deduction for 2026 is $16,100 for single filers, $32,200 for married filing jointly, and $24,150 for head of household. This calculator applies the standard deduction before computing federal income tax.

State Disability Insurance & Paid Leave (SDI/PFML)

Fourteen states take an employee payroll contribution for disability insurance, paid family leave or a similar program, separate from state income tax. The calculator shows these as their own line item. The 2026 employee rates are: California SDI 1.3% (no wage cap); Colorado FAMLI 0.44%; Connecticut Paid Leave 0.5%; Delaware Paid Leave up to 0.4%; Hawaii TDI 0.5% (capped at about $390 a year); Maine Paid Leave 0.5%; Massachusetts PFML about 0.46%; Minnesota Paid Leave 0.44%; New Jersey TDI 0.19%, FLI 0.23% and unemployment 0.425%; New York PFL 0.432% plus disability insurance of up to $31.20 a year; Oregon Paid Leave 0.6% plus a 0.1% transit tax; Pennsylvania unemployment 0.07%; Rhode Island TDI 1.1% of the first $100,000; and Washington PFML about 0.81% plus WA Cares 0.58%.

How Hourly vs. Salary Works

To convert an hourly wage to an annual salary, multiply by the number of hours you work per week, then by 52 weeks. A full-time worker at 40 hours/week multiplies their hourly rate by 2,080 to get their annual gross pay. To go the other way, divide annual salary by 2,080.

Keep in mind that salaried employees are typically "exempt" and don't receive overtime, while hourly workers are often entitled to 1.5× their regular rate for hours over 40 per week.

How Gross-Up Calculations Work

A gross-up calculation works backwards from a target take-home amount to find the gross pay that produces it. This is useful for negotiating a specific net salary, setting up a one-time bonus that must net a round number after taxes, or reimbursing an employee for an expense without them losing value to withholding.

Because federal income tax is progressive (the rate itself increases as income rises) there's no simple multiplication that works — this calculator numerically solves for the gross amount using the same 2026 federal brackets, FICA, state income tax, state SDI/PFML, 401(k), and health insurance settings as the main paycheck calculator, then verifies the result by running it back through the full withholding calculation.

Federal Overtime Law (FLSA)

Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), non-exempt employees must receive overtime pay of at least 1.5× their regular rate for any hours worked over 40 in a workweek. Some states (California, Alaska, Nevada) also require daily overtime for hours over 8 in a single day.

Salaried employees earning over the FLSA threshold ($684/week as of 2024 rules) are generally exempt from overtime requirements.

Texas Paycheck Taxes in 2026

Texas has no state income tax, and a constitutional amendment approved by voters in 2019 bars the state from creating one. A Texas paycheck is reduced only by federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare.

Texas Take-Home Pay by Salary

Each row is a single filer paid every two weeks who takes the standard deduction and has no 401(k) or health insurance deductions. The figures come from the same 2026 tables the calculator above uses.

SalaryFederal income taxSocial Security & MedicareTake-home per yearPer paycheck
$40,000$2,620$3,060$34,320$1,320
$60,000$5,020$4,590$50,390$1,938
$80,000$8,770$6,120$65,110$2,504
$100,000$13,170$7,650$79,180$3,045
$150,000$24,734$11,475$113,791$4,377

On a $60,000 salary, Texas is tied with eight other states for the highest take-home pay in the country. The same salary leaves $48,236 in Oklahoma and $48,976 in Louisiana. At $25 an hour for a 40-hour week ($52,000 a year), take-home pay in Texas is about $1,691 per biweekly paycheck. A married couple filing jointly on one $100,000 salary keeps about $84,710 a year.

Local Income Taxes in Texas

No Texas city or county taxes wages. Texas relies on sales and property taxes instead, which affect your cost of living but not your paycheck.

Other Texas Payroll Deductions

Texas does not require employees to pay into a state disability or paid family leave program, so the state adds nothing to a paycheck.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Texas have a state income tax?

No. Texas does not tax wages, so no state income tax is withheld from your paycheck.

How much is $60,000 a year after taxes in Texas?

A single filer earning $60,000 in Texas takes home about $50,390 a year, or $1,938 per biweekly paycheck. That is after $5,020 in federal income tax and $4,590 in Social Security and Medicare, and assumes the standard deduction with no 401(k) or health insurance deductions.

How much is $25 an hour after taxes in Texas?

$25 an hour for 40 hours a week is $52,000 a year. A single filer in Texas takes home about $43,962 of that, or $1,691 every two weeks.

Why is my Texas paycheck bigger than a friend's in another state?

With the same gross salary, a Texas paycheck is usually larger than one in a state with an income tax, because only federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare are withheld.
